Someone Special

I read a quote that said, "Some people are a blessin', and others are a lesson."

At first, I laughed and then I thought about how true that is. Really though, we shouldn't take anyone for granted. There is a purpose behind every interaction with other people. Whether it is to encourage you or teach you something, everyone you meet will influence your life.

The problem comes when you realize that someone is meant to be a lesson and you refuse to absorb the lesson. Or, when someone is trying to bless you and you refuse to accept the blessing.

Those who were put in our lives to teach us a lesson have helped us grow. It might have been a painful growth, but growth is better than death. Those who were put in our lives to bless us should be recognized.

The key is to appreciate others, no matter what their purpose is in your life. Why? Because we are commanded to:

John 13:34 (ESV) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

He said, "just as I have loved you, you are to love one another," reminding us that He loves us although we mess up and are not perfect, so that's how we should love one another. We should realize that others are not perfect and maybe they are one of the lessons we should learn, but we still must love them.

Who you interact with influences who you become.

You must realize that you are constantly being molded by Him, and those influences will either limit or facilitate what He is doing in you. A good friend said, "I'm clay in the Potter's Hands, and I'm constantly being molded by Him." It's so cliche, but it's so true! He is making us into what He wants us to be, and we can either help or hinder the process.

So when you come across someone special, someone who is truly a blessing, treasure them, and tell them how much they mean to you. They might not ever know what a difference they are making in your life!

When you come across those who are a lesson in your life, keep on moving, pray for them, and love them anyway! 1 John 4:19 (ESV) says, "We love because He first loved us."
